I retired from my career of 32 years, in 2018 to run for Commissioner. I was elected in March 2019, and then reelected in March 2022. Being retired affords me the additional time needed for the level of dedication Lake Park deserves. I resigned in December 2023, due to a very invasive FL state mandated personal financial disclosure document that I chose not to fill out. Hundreds of elected officials in FL did the same. There is now an injunction against it, and I feel comfortable to run again.
There's a lot more I
want to be a part of in making Lake Park the best it can be.
I hope I can earn your vote again.
Please feel free to call me directly at 312-560-0110 anytime to discuss what's on your mind.
I am running again primarily to focus on helping Lake Park's Residents and Businesses.
I want the decisions being made to be BY the residents and in FAVOR of the residents.
This is achieved by YOU, telling your Commissioners that you voted in, how you want them to vote on issues and decisions.

You can call me to discuss your concerns. I will be your voice and take action! Some residents are unable to get return calls from Town Hall and are apprehensive about speaking up at meetings.
If there's a meeting or event in the Town, chances are you'll see me there!

I was Chairman of Lake Park's Centennial Committee, as well as that of our Award winning Diversity & Inclusion Council. I facilitate LP Business at Breakfast weekly networking group. I volunteer to preserve and share Lake Park's rich history by serving as Advisory Board and Talent Procurement at Lake Park Historical Society. I have a great working relationship with Lake Park Elementary, and Coastal School, and organized providing Turkeys for Teachers at Thanksgiving. I attend the Community Watch meetings, and stay in close contact with our Deputies at PBSO Lake Park District 10.
I support our Veterans, First Responders and our Police! I was Co-Chair of the Veterans Day Parade in downtown WPB. Supporter of VA Hospital and Fisher House Charities. I work closely with the Lake Park VFW Post 9610, and Gold & Blue Star Families.
Let's also support and protect our Youth, our Elders, and our Underserved.

I support sensible and reasonable growth for our community, with resident input, that benefits residents. How can we more effectively reach and communicate with our 9000 residents to get this input? A dozen or less attendees at meetings is a poor representation. No question, the financial benefit from some reasonable development reduces the burden on US the tax payers. But at the same time, I feel developers and the Town need to be held accountable for finishing projects, and in a timely manner.
Take a look at our Business District on Park Avenue; full of unsightly unfinished construction projects. No resolution and no accountability. Businesses are being given leases and then are moving out within months. I could list 10+ restaurants or businesses that have left within the last year. Developers are buying up the plazas, and when leases renew, rents skyrocket causing businesses to fail. So, if our business district is empty, what else will they do? build more high rise residential, of course! Hey wait.. do we even have the proper infrastructure for all this development? Oh wow, that's another subject.
Everyone agrees, Code Compliance is necessary, but Lake Park is not an HOA.

Code needs to work with the residents, not against them. Many residents say they are afraid to speak up for fear of retaliation or being bullied and verbally abused. Fines should not be used as a profit generator to offset absurd salaries or make 'quotas'?? The residents are not a 'cash cow'! New residents as well as current, need an easy way to get information on basic code and regulations. Upfront, not as a 'surprise', (like the gravel driveway issue) with a first time warning, before any paperwork or fines are written up.
Not to mention the difficult and confusing Town website and MuniCode! And how about we try to help our elderly or those unable to navigate home repairs or upgrades, rather than to punish them? There are programs in place, such as 'Paint Your Heart Out' through SWA, that assists in outside home painting, willing to assist residents.
I also would like to see the permitting process be reevaluated. I feel it needs to be simple for the residents to fill out, review the fee schedule, create a more streamlined process, and some fees elimated all together. Should we really have to pay for a permit to have a yard sale?!
As I'm out in the community, many residents have expressed to me that they're very concerned for the future of Lake Park. Some feel we're losing our identity.

The concerns of the residents are not aligned with the direction of the Town and their representatives; which seems to be BIG development. Seems like many residents and business owners don't trust the Town. Who can blame them when some bad decisions have been made that we're having to live with for years now, with no resolution nor accountability.
A good example is our business district, Park Avenue, with empty store fronts and unfinished construction projects. Perhaps there needs to be a more careful selection of businesses, to ensure more successes than failures and stop the constant move in/move out? Or if you're going to sit back and let the Business District fail, at least have the decency to state your intentions up front, so good people aren't losing their homes to try to keep their business going.
Finally to address the elephant in the room; all of those very tall buildings being built. Some people are happy about them, most aren't. Most are concerned that Lake Park has lost it's small town feel and look. But it's not just about tall buildings; it's about regaining some control back over our own Town.

Honestly, there is probably very little that can be done at this point to stop the developers from building. The plans have been in place for a very long time now.
But I'm hoping that at minimum, we can limit some heights.
Very tall buildings are being built and planned on US1, Northlake, and Park Avenue, and 10th street; Lake Park's perimeter or the 'outside'. What really concerns me is what's going to happen to the 'inside' of Lake Park?
We need a vision and a plan for what Lake Park will look like inside the mile high ring of buildings, with assistance to accomplish it.
Simple but necessary things like adequate street lighting, safe play areas for our children, safe streets that are patrolled regularly, activities for our Senior population, adequate parking and clear regulations aren't a lot to ask for.
More responsible spending that's commensurate with a town of our size and budget.
We need to encourage local Lake Park businesses to become involved in the bidding process. Many Lake Park Businesses are unaware of projects as simple as catering!
Control staff count and salaries: can a small town like Lake Park justify the size of total staff it has, and total compensation paid out?
A lot of 'Natural Scrub Areas' in surrounding towns seem to be removed and replaced with building. Once they're gone, you can never get them back. It'd be a shame to see Lake Park's last scrub area fall victim to this popular practice. We also need to address preserving some 'Green Space', and could we get a REAL Dog Park please?
Improve pay for Public Works staff, who do the 'dirty work' for us all week in the unbearable heat!
There's quite a discrepancy in salaries for Staff within the Town.
Salaries have been raised beyond what most would consider reasonable for a budget the size of ours. I encourage you to take a look at this and see if you think the pay levels look fair to you.
Joanne and John Linden have lived in Lake Park since July 2014.
We love our neighbors! and take every opportunity possible to make Lake Park the best it can be!
